Classical Civilization Superstars

Classical civilizations between the years of 600BCE and 600CE had many interesting and important figures.  Discuss a person from the Greek/ Roman (European,), Maryan/ Gupta (Indian) or Qin/ Han (Chinese) civilization.

The assignment is worth 5 points and I will give you a 5 point bonus if you discuss a non-European.  The only catch is that you have to be the first to mention the person and why they are important and/or interesting.  Have Fun!

iI want to do mine on Alexander the Great because he was a very influencial person who cpnquered over 16 cities and named them all Alexandria. His mentor was Aristorle who knew so much about everything especially how astronomy works and was a student of Plato.:)

I'm doing mine on Cassius because I believe it's important to know about the man that assassinated Caesar. Most people wouldn't pick a bad person of the ancient history but I thinks it's good to know all about good and bad people of the ancient time. Things might not be the same if it wasn't for Cassius to assassinate Caeser in order to stop him from taking over Rome.

He also sent soldiers into Mongolia in which they took control of the Silk Road.

An important person that I would like to comment on is Siddhartha Gautama. Siddhartha (aka Buddha) lived from 563 to 483 BCE, which was during the end of the Vedic Age (1500 to 500 BCE) in ancient India. He was important because he created the religion of Buddhism which was based upon "4 Noble Truths." these " truths" were that 1) life is suffering, 2) suffering comes from desire, 3) to end suffering, one must eliminate desire, and 4) that desire can be eliminated by following the "8 fold path ( right views, aspirations, speech, conduct, livelihood, effort, mindfulness, and meditation)."
