Honor Code Assignment

Unfortunately it has become necessary to discuss academic integrity among our AP World History community. I am making this a class assignment worth 15 points. Read the following honor code for AP World History and leave a comment. I will use the comments to fine tune the Honor Code but the gist of the document is that there are standards for the class and by enrolling in the class you are agreeing to those standards.

Advanced Placement World History Honor Code

I will not give or receive aid in examinations; I will not give or receive unpermitted aid in class work, in the preparation of reports, or in any other work that is to be used by the instructor as the basis of grading;
I will do my share and take an active part in seeing to it that others uphold the spirit and letter of the Honor Code.

Examples of conduct that have been regarded as being in violation of the Honor Code include (but are not limited to):

Copying from another or allowing another to copy from one’s own paper
Unpermitted collaboration
Plagiarism
Giving or receiving unpermitted aid on a take-home examination
Representing as one’s own work the work of another
Giving or receiving aid on an academic assignment under circumstances in which a reasonable person should have known that such aid was not
permitted

This honor code was adapted from the Stanford University Honor Code, it is not meant to replace or in any way supplant the NMCHS Academic Integrity Policy. Your comments and thoughts are valuable to me and thank you for completing this assignment.
Peace,
Mr. Parker

I agree with this to the most utmost, Mr. Parker. Although, I can shamefully admit that I did try to copy once of the Sterns for the last question. But thanks to you, who told me not to copy I received a Stern book and reread the question and was able to solve it. And as for Red lines I read the text book (not as often as I should) and sometimes there are Red lines that I get stumped on, So i ask for assistance. I can tell you though that I've seen people cheat in the daily quizzes but I lest it at that.

The one thing that I did not like that you did was when I got a 9 in the essay from the test and you questioned weather I was cheating. That was a bit harsh, since I knew that I would fail the multiple choice, the night before I tried to memorize the rubrics for the essays and obviously it worked.
With this said I agree to follow the honor system:

Wow!!! :O Jonathan did sure write a whole lot. Anyways, Mr. Parker, in class you told your fellow students (including me) that we can get killed by copying, but ummm it does not say that in the honor system rules... Yet, the rules are really harsh and I know if a university catches someone cheating they would sooooooo get kicked out!!! So much for nothing. D:

Hello. Okay so i read the honor code and i think it sounds completly fair. There is no reason that we arent capable of doing our own work. I think it is great that this situatuion was brought to our attention now, unstead of when we are in college. Stanford is where i would like to attend college so seeing their honor code was interesting!

well Parker i agree with what you posted and cheating should not be tolerated. On the note that you said in class that we would die if we cheated i think that is as everyone has said a little harsh but does get your point across on cheating.

I agree to the honor code. It seems to me that people that cheat are only trying to find the easiest way to get out of work. I believe the honor code is fair and I think that everyone should have it memorized. JK. :)

awwww, does this mean I can't copy Monica's answers anymore? I'm just kidding. I would never copy off of monica. But I promise that I don't cheat and that I won't cheat on any assignments you may possibly give us. That said, can you tell me what I can do to get this C off of my report card?

I'm not in your class but this seems rather vague.

As college student who has seen nothing but cheating for 4 years I'm all for a Honor Code but this non-concrete language only gives cheaters an easy out.

Hello. I agree with the new restrictions but I am confused on the part of giving aid to others because many times I've helped fellow students on thier essays outside of class. Is that considered like cheating in your class or just helping out a class mate? If it is wrong than I will not do it again. I think that in order for all of to succeed we must share our ideas with each other, and that is not considered cheating, well it depends on the situation.

Hey, I support the honor code. Cheating does bring bad things to your life. But I dont think that by helping other people, or by giving others your own ideas should be consider cheating. Thatz all for now!!!
I will do my best to follow this Honor Code...

I totally agree, I think it is good that you brought up this topic just for the fact that many students do not have the integrity to do thier own work.
