Well all you incoming sophomores have fun taking this class!!!! It is a great experience!!!
Some advice for you would be:
1.Do your homework every night
2.Take the best notes you can
3.Study Study Study at least every night
4.ask Mr. Parker for help, that is what he is there for!!!
5.check out Mr. Parker's Blog it's great!

Well, all I can say is hang in there at the beginning, it gets easier, but you have to work hard, no slacking off. Take the class, it pays off.

Ummm my best advice would be to read the chapters every night... Try as hard as possible to keep up with whatever era you are in. Also having a general idea of each unit is better then not having any idea about it. Good luck!
Buy a Barrons/Princton/whatever AP study guide they are so worth it.

Hey incoming sophmores! Welcome to A.P.; you have got your hands full. I am warning you this is not an easy class AT ALL. You have to spend at least an hour a night with your book reading, and trust me it pays off in the end! You have to be willing to spend hours a night on homework, and you can't slack or procrastinate; it will catch up to you!! If you work hard it will al pay off and you will be pleased with your progress! All those who plan on for sure taking the class and the major exam in may remember-you know more than you think you know, but you have to be willing to focus and study in order to do well on that test; it is not made for people to pass-its made to make you fail and lose a part of your soul!(just kidding, but it sure feels like it). This class-from my experience, was amazing and informative but very difficult and you have to be willing to read a book designed for college students! Don't give up-try hard-study-and have confidence in the end; these things will help you in the end

To all of those who will be taking AP world history next year:
*Do ALL of the homework, if you don't you will regret it when the tests come around.
*Realize that AP means Advanced placement: You're not in an AP class to goof off.
*If you want an easy A, get out while you still can
*Don't be afraid to ask questions or do research on your own; it will help you in the long run.
*Start reviewing for the tests early; don't put it off till the last minute, it will just confuse you.
*Be able to function on very little sleep and a whole lot of stress.
*The AP test in May is not supposed to be easy, it is written to confuse you, so do as many practice tests as possible and try to get an AP study book which can be found at almost any bookstore. If you know a past AP student you could also see if they have an old one lying around. It's all the same basic idea and they will be of value to you.
*Use online notes or reviews if it will help you better understand a concept. The books can be hard to read at times, but you can't let that stress you out.
*If you aren't getting A's, talk to Mr.Parker to see what you can do to bring up your grades.
*Take good, in depth notes. If you take them in a 1 inch binder or a notebook solely for APWH it will be a lot easier to review them and find them and they help out a lot.
*Use classmates as resources; if you don't understand something have a conversation about it with someone who does.
*Get a solid foundation on main ideas.
*Welcome to AP, don't give up and just do what you need to do, you'll be fine.***

welcome aboard. a few things to know. this class becomes your family. rely on them and help them and support eachother. do your work! and think always be thinking. be questioning! you need to learn outside of class. read books watch movies know whats going on in the world. it'll benefit you soooo much!! and enjoy ap! parkers class is a blast. learn the songs :) and come into class everyday with a positive and upbeat attitude towards YOUR future! peace and love <3

one thing to remeber:
dont slack off!
you slack off, you fail the ap test.
do your red lines every night and review them once in a while otherwise you will have trouble when the test comes around.
and for the love of god do not procastinate!
Hey there incoming ap kids, this class can be a blast, if you put effort into it. My advice to you is read all that is assigned to you and try to read more about what you have learned on your own, Do your homework all the time and dont slack off, because if you do you may end up like this guy X_x hahaha anyways. Have fun and do your work, ask questions if you want to know more about something, make sure to participate in everything. Oh and when it comes to the ap test, you should go head and do it, i regret nnot taking it. That is all i have to say

~Looking for a fun easy time in class? Drop whatever you have in your hands for AP World History and walk out of Parker's door. AP is NOT easy people. It is an Advance Placement class that Parker is teaching. Not only is he going to teach it. He's going to drill you in it so that when the AP test comes around to say 'Hi' in May, you're going to say 'Hey, Imma take you on!'
~Don't Procrastinate.
~NEVER GIVE UP!! if you're strugling with something, talk to Mr.Parker about it. if you're failing his class, talk to him about it. if you can't make a day of his class, TALK TO HIM ABOUT IT. I don't care that you're new at this or if you're scared that he might bite your for missing a day of HIS class. He has to know that you know what is going on so that he (or you) can figure something out to work for you. (just dont make a habit of it) We're all human. Communicate.
~Don't Procrastinate.
~If you dont get something and you dont wunna talk to Parker about it cause you're scared or whatever, talk to your peers. Learn to make friends with people in class so that if you need help, you can lean on them.

I'm guessing right about now you're asking why i keep on saying ~Don't Procrastinate. right?? or some of you guys probably thing im stupid or something and cant remember anything....thats true enough too though. =] Just kidding. I keep on repeating this cause it's important. If you get even one step behind, it's hard to catch up. AP is fast pace and hard core. You have to work to pass the class. So like Aly said, you have to 'Be able to function on very little sleep and a whole lot of stress.' seems hard, im not gunna lie, it is hard. but the work pays off. You'll feel proud in the end and you'll have a lot of fun moments. AP is awesome and a party everyday (almost everyday at least) if you get past the work.

Anyways! Class of 2012! This'll be your first AP class, now must of you will are use to getting all A's, thinking your the best and you can do anything easily...
Well this class will prove you wrong! 99% of you are going to actually have to do all the work, study hard and more. Take all extra credit oppertunity.
This class may seem difficult at first but soon you'll get the handle on things.
Don't get cocky, don't procrastinate but be prepared for some fun along the way.
You'll love Parker, cause hes just awesome that way. Good luck!

can have a great study tool for the

its important to understand that this is not a class were you will only have to rely on hw reading and parkers lessons,.....youll have to go beyond that and read on your own, talk to your peers, or maybe even watch the history channel!
it would be a very good idea to get a princetons review or barrons
book.....youll find those of great use and will serve as a great form of preparing to for the AP EXAM!
come to class prepared and ready to learn something new every day!!!dont worry!in the end youll
be surprised how much you have learned.
listen to parkers lessons!!!and learn his songs!.
so yeah....one last thing!::
DONT FALL BEHIND! in the end youll
find all the struggles you went through paid off.

so im gonna keep it short take the class so you can take the test which will get you the credits you need read every night it will help alot and do the assignments and learn about the other cultures as much as possible and their history

Okay i'm going to give you straight forward advice. No sugar coating here.
1. This class is for kids who are responsible and really want to do the work. If you don't take this seriously, you'll fall flat on your face.
2. Be on top of you're work. Trust me, skipping a day of AP homework is like skipping a week of regular homework.
3. Take the AP test ... no matter what grade you are getting in the class. You really will end up knowing much more than you think you do. It's better to try and fail then to quit.
4. Make friends in the class. Don't think you can do this solo. Having people to help you and rely on is crucial. Just don't talk a lot during Parker's lectures ;]
5. Lastly, HAVE FUN. It's awesome that you want to try this. Just don't get too stressed. Relax and things will come much easier.

numero uno of my advice: NEVER EVER EVER EVER decide not to read the chapter for the night and and that you'll just make it up later.don't be stupid.it piles up and you'll never be back on top of it if you do...plus it's too easy to get into a habit of procrastinating.and that will screw you into failing.
numero dos: get a barron's book.and use it.
so not joking....it's a lifesaver
numero tres: REMEMBER THE SONGS!!!!! i swear to Buddha they helped me sooooooo much on the big AP test.
numero cuatro: don't piss mr. parker off.because i will hunt you down and come after you with some sort of blunt object.

Advice to you kids.
This class is an easy C but hard A. you'll get a lot of extra credit opportunities so take them all. You should read every night but thats not possible for everyone, YOU WILL GET TIRED OF IT, just remeber that the quizes you will take are going to kill you unless you actully do read and you comprehend it all. If you are not ready to read 20 pages every 2 nights then get out while you can. long pages by the way. and also take the test no matter what. dont listen to how hard parker makes it sound. i did and was told it was too easy.

So.
You've been pretty much sailing through all your classes with minimal effort, right? I mean, jeez, all your classes were pretty simple last year. You're so ready for Advanced Placement Word History. Sounds simple right? History? Dates 'n Facts 'n' Old Dead People, right?
WRONG.
AP = not simple and not easy.
There is no sailing through this.
You can BS your way through the first week, and after that you're screwed unless you put in some real effort. Don't do this if you can't handle it. Heck, I couldn't handle it. And I was one of the most cocky ones at the first meeting. Let this be a lesson to you: Do as I say and not as I do. Don't stay in AP unless you have some serious skills, dedication, and memory. It's great, but there's a cost.
Oh, and, let's keep this between you and me, but Wikipedia is your best friend. Love the Wikipedia. Offer gifts to the Wikipedia. Bow down to the Wikipedia. It saved my butt about 50 times, and when you're being overwhelmed by the intensosity (yeah I said it) that IS AP, it'll lend a helping hand, as long as you know what to look for....
Wow, so everybody's covered a lot of the basics..
AP is serious! YOU HAVE TO PUT EFFORT INTO EVERYTHIIING. lol because you never know when information might come into handy. nothing you learn is a waste, so take advantage of it & make the most of it as well! You really do get a broader knowledge of the world & it gives you a more realistic perception of how things came to be. It's interesting! Lol so just make sure to alwaaays do yo' work! NO PROCRASTINATING. it'll get'cha. trust me.

Here are tips from the Survival Guide for AP World History:
1. Sleep will become a hobby.
2. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE.
3. Do ALL of your homework.
4. Study as if your life depends on it.
5. No procratinating.
6. Refer to # 2.
7. Do not slack off. AT ANY TIME. Unless you want that pile of unfinished work to eat you alive.
8. Read on what you don't know a lot about. But don't forget what you're expert on.
9. Breathe. It's good for you.
10. Eat, sleep, breathe AP World History.

Check the block for ANY chance of extra credit. Trust me, You'll need it. xD

hey im commenting again because im bored, lol. well incoming sophmores...since you are all attempting an A.P. class-im going to assume that you are all generally 4.0/straight A students. Guess what!? thats GOING to change in this class...almost every person in my A.P. class, myself included, is used to straight A's and we all have had to work SUPER hard to even manage a B in the class...just because you're used to getting A's doesnt mean you'll get one...you MUST work hard, not slck, study and not fall behind to just pass the class...if there are extra credit opportunities...take them-comment parkers blog or w/e...learn his songs-they helped on the test for many of us so that should clue you in to LEARN THE SONGS! it may seem lame to sing a song about history, but fine then-fail the class and test, its your choice...this class is a ZOOM ZOOM!! class...homework EVERY night-and its not easy! learn the essay rubrics, and how to manipulate the information to the rubric-thats how you get the points!! procrastination in this class is EVIL!! dont do it!!! and any extended vacations are not recommended if it means you gunna miss this class for about 7 days(i did and it screwed me over for that unit) it fails to miss so much...your notes will become your friend-my advice is to do them in multiple colors to make them more interesting to look at..and HIGHLIGHT key points parker brings up...dont be afraid to approach him and ask for help/clarification on anything...it will help you in the long run...if certain marks of his on your essays dont make sense ask him what he means so you can better improve your score...
after all the disclaimers in that remember-taking on this class gives you big advantages! it is fun once you get the hang of it, and you get the satisfaction to see yourself improve and develop college level skills for the future...i give whoever takes this class-and the A.P. test in may HUGE props, cuz it isnt an easy thing to do! trust me! so WOOT WOOT to all of you who are going to fight through to the test!!
remember-the more you study the better! because then the test may be easier than you thought its be, and thats a huge plus!!
good luck next year in A.P. you wont regret it in the long run(as long as you try hard)...but dont join if you are expecting to get an easy A...dont waste parkers or the kids who actually wanna learn's time....thats not cool...
try hard and you will do great!

hey i member the first time i checked this site out frshmn year i was eager and ready but after three weeks of parkers class i was ready to quit. i was used to having a hard class and a teacher who really pushed you. but parker doesnt really do that he just gets sad and dissapointed in you if you dont do your work.
so my advise is dont give up and push your self all you have do is try and that will satisfy him and your grade.
some of the lil quizzes will kill your grade but thers a lot of essays that you can write to bring it up.
also expect to be "entertained" by parker's everyday jokes and solo's in class

But, you know, at the end of the book, the hero always wins. No matter what. And then you can go, "Cool Ending!" and read the Author's Note.

i'm a bit late at commenting, but after reading all of these posts, i felt i had to. this class is NOT impossible, no matter how much people say it is. i had an A all year in this class, and i hope i'll help you to get one too. just follow these steps:
1.procrastinate on your homework when you can. if you have parker on a tuesday or thursday do your reading/redlines during tutorial. it stays fresh in your mind, so you dont end up having to remember something from the night before.
2.ALWAYS follow the rubric when writing essays in this class. writing skills and word use dont matter here. if you dont follow the rubric, you fail,simple as that.
3.stay on good terms with parker. you dont have to brownnose, but dont be a troublemaker either. listen when he talks or he'll get really sad.
4.make friends. the class will go by much faster if you do. also, everyone in the class should be smart and know things, so ask them for help.
*this class will be a pain at times, but it'll be worth it when its over.
