Well we are off to a great start in class.
I'd like to hear what you think about Gilgamesh. Each time I read it, (this is the third time for me) I am struck with the universiality of religions. So I'm offering 5 (five) extra credit points for each similarity/ comparison to a religion (any religion) which you can discuss.
So let's hear from you AP people!

Well, Gilgamesh seems really similar to Greek religion. Because in the past, Greeks had more than one god and goddess. They also had the story of Heracles that was similar Gilgamesh's story.

However, i agree with Karen. it does have some similarities with Greek Mythology and Roman Mythology. In most Roman and Greek myths the God's mess around with man kind by creating half gods, like Heracles.

Since you told us to check out the extra credit assignment, I thought that I should. Below are some connections I made between Gilgamesh's story and various religions.
I agree with the two above me about the reference to a demi-god, but there are others as well. Biblical references are made when the story tells about a great flood(Noah's Ark) and the evil serpent(Adam and Eve). Demons also appear in the epic, showing more similarities to many other religions. A main theme in the story is the search for immortality, which is similar to the Egyptians' quest for eternal life. Also, the gods in the story are similar characteristically to Greek gods. Anu is like Zeus(king of gods), Ishtar is similar to Aphrodite(goddess of love), and there are gods representing other things as well. That's all that I can think of for now.
