Your Winter Break Assignment

Happy Solstice!

The Winter Soltice (Sunset December 21) marks the day of the year with the least amount of daylight hours. The daylight hours increase untill they reach their maximum with the Summer Solstice, at which point the days will begin to get shorter. Pretty handy information for agrarian communities, don't you think?

Welcome back to the blog and thank you for checking in. The first semester is history and I think everyone learned a lot. We have quite a ways to go, but at this point we can say that we accomplished something.

By the way, the DBQ assignment on The Winter Break Assignment Sheet had the wrong pages. It should read:
DBQ #5 pages A19-A23

Leave a message to prove you were here. Some suggestions are; thoughts on the first semester, predictions/ questions for the second semester, compliments, criticisms, whatever. Please be mindful that this is a public forum, if you have messages of a more personal/ individual nature, drop me a line at sparker@nmcusd.org.

Enjoy your break- See you next year!
Peace,
Mr. Parker

The first semester was though. Figuring that we had to adjust to level that this class is in. I figure that the second semester will be the same as the first one, except now we know what to do.

i was here :) well overall i like this class and i'm glad i gave myself the opportunity of taking it. i think we all knew coming in that it was going to be hard and it was going to take a lot of dedication and work... and it has. i really enjoyed working in combined classes; that's always fun. the sing-off was pretty cool and we won no matter what the other class says (:. i'm expecting it to get a little harder since the test is aproaching, but i think i am ready. and now i'm not scared and i can just say: bring it on.
p.s. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and all that happy stuff.

hey parker (:
-i thought that the first semester was pretty tough. it wasn't as i expected in some ways, because of all the fun things we did, like the sing off (: i still have a hard time remembering all the dates of historical events, my test scores aren't what i want, and also have a tough time with the essays but i hope in the next semester i'll have some sort of epiphany or something and get better at them (: well, happy holidays to you and your family~

Overall, this first semester was actually not too bad. Although the class was tough at times (with the textbook, essays, and much more) all the fun simulations and combined classes makes it worth it. I think it's cool that we do a lot of interesting and fun stuff but actually learn a lot at the same time. I expect next semester to be harder because the AP test is drawing near, but I believe i'm ready for that challenge.

Happy New Year Mr. Parker!
Although the first semester was a struggle at first, I'm sure the next semester will be something i will be ready for! I'm excited for the new things we will be learning, especially because it will become more modern.
I really enjoyed last semester and am looking forward to your class again. I also enjoyed the songs you've made for us to remember what we have learned. It really helps!:D

To all that apply: happy Christmas, merry New Year, and happy birthday!

I agree that the class is difficult, but that isn't a surprise. I hope I can improve on writing the essays instead of getting worse. The songs are a big help for remembering things.
We're halfway done, and if this half is anything like the last, it should be interesting. I think everything will start to get easier sometime in the future.

Hey Mr. Parker!
The first half of this class was, as everyone has said, difficult. I've never had a history teacher that actually taught me stuff before so everything has been new and its been a lot of work but im glad that i took to the class since i've learned so much, and plus my friend tells me about non-AP classes and they sound really boring. I hope that the next half is really fun and hopefully a little easier since we are getting into more modern things.

Ay Mr Parker this is Matt Monges. Im using Jenny's thang thang cuz i forgot my password. Anyways, your class was awesome last semester. I loved all of the projects and simulations we did in your class. We should deffinitly do more of those. Thanks again, now its Jenny's turn. Woo!
hey mr. parker, this is jenny now. Your class was faaantastic, my favorite part of your class was when we were not writing essays. We should deinately stay away from those, also you should grow your beard back ;). Thank yo for your consideration.
Sincerely,
gawd (jenny)
(p.s. Matt helped me write this)

I was here.
I was at Borders on December 21. I was shopping for a Christmas gift for my sister. She wanted the book Water For Elephants, I got it.
In the process though, we discovered the book series Post Secret. If you don't know what that is, its a book full of post cards. People decorate a post card with a secret, something they need to get off there chest, but don't want to say out loud. They send it to this guy who collects them and publishes them into a book. They are quite interesting, and I want the entire collection. Its like 5 books. I will have them all eventually.
We sat in Borders and read for almost 2 hours. it was a lot of fun. I really like reading. i think my favorite books are the Harry Potter series. I've read them all multiple times. I went to the premier of the 7th movie. I dressed up as a Hogwarts student. Best. Birthday. Present. Ever.
Anyways, Happy New Years! (:

The cripple that can play soccer in 2 days has been here!!! (Liana)

I agree with everyone else, this class has been challenging but the simulations have helped increase the fun level. Along with jenny, I think that the most fun part of your class was when we were not writing essays (though the at home ones were much easier then the in-class ones). Then again, the sing-off was pretty awesome! [All about 3rd period!]

See you guys in a week, Aloha!

Hey Mr. Parker. I was here. The first semester of the class was awesome. I enjoyed it a lot. The songs and simulations made the class really fun and we learned while doing it. I'm expecting the class to get a bit harder in the next semester since we're coming up on the end of the year and The AP test. Just got to work a lot harder and Do good on that. Well see you on Monday!

The first semester was challenging. Remembering every important detail and learning how to spot them in the reading was especially difficult. However, it's becoming a routine now and just a bit more smooth. The essays are still challenging because we think we know what to do and we understand it when we do it as a class, but when it comes to doing it by ourselves, then we tend to forget. But like all, we just need to patient and practice!!! Our dedication and struggles will pay off!

I think this first semester was very difficult for me and it might stil be if i dont step up. But it might be easier now that I know what to expect. Even though it might be difficult I don't plan to give up because I took this challenge to become better. Still this class is very difficult and not really what I expected but still a lot more fun. :)

Hi mr parker:) I thought the first semester was okay. Challenging but not undo-able. I liked simulations and I think we should do a lot more o those. I also hope the next semester is easy, but I highly doubt it

Sup Parker, Its Matt Romero and just wanted to say the first semester was pretty fun it got tough towards the end but overall I liked it and realized that the class isnt impossible. I really liked the combined class simulation stuff. Im looking forward to next semester i think its gonna be easier because we are use to all the craziness of this class.

Hey Mr.Parker! I thought the first semester of class was great. This I the most challenging class I've had so far in high school but I really enjoy it. It was difficult at first to understand a lot of the material but it got a lot easier as we continued. I actually like the occasional essays because I feel like they help me explain what I've learned and what I need to work on. I feel like this class will definitely help me pass the end of year test. The simulations are the most fun but I also feel like we soak up the information more when we do them. We should do more of those :) Thanks for an awesome class!

Isis has survived 3 weeks of winter! Just thought people may be, a little happy to know that... ANY WAYS! I actually enjoy your class Mr Parker, it keeps me on my feet and I take so many notes sometimes, I think you could gather them all up and make a small informative book of them. (lol jk) but I do enjoy your class and hope to do better than I did last semester. My favorite parts about your class is that we're never just sitting there: I hate just sitting there in class for an hour. You're usually sticking to a schedule and having us learn something new each day, litterally. Also, the combined classes and activities we do always are fun and help me remember certain things. So yeah, I was here, and I'll see you tomorrow when 5th period starts, woohoo!

Kameron was not here! but he managed to post this comment somehow...

kameron has fun in mr parkers class, but he did have a hard time the first semester. he thinks he can do better this semester though because he knows what he has to do... and it was his new years resolution

anyway, kameron doesnt want to wake up tomorrow but he will, looking foward to his 5th block class. because mr. parker is just that classy

i was here! as far as your class goes i love the songs! they are my favorite part of the class, they really help us learn in a fun way and we need to have more sing offs!

First of all, I love this class and I really think that the songs are an amazing way of learning more about history while still having fun singing. I knew that AP wouldn't be easy and it really isn't xD but it's worth it. With hard work and perseverance anything can be accomplished :) I'm expecting the tests to get harder but we've had a lot of practice, especially with the essays and I know we can make it!

P.S. I loved the sing-off :D
