The Trial Begins!!!

Each student will need to select a role for the upcoming trial. The points possible for each role are 50. I will offer up to 15 extra credit points for dressing in character. Sign in on this blog to select a role, first come first served. Following the each role is a brief description of the responsibilities.

The roles:
Judge
You will Oversee the proceedings and direct the behavior of the courtroom. (Mr. Parker will help.) You will rules on items of procedure and instruct the jury. You will make legal interpretations of legal concepts when needed.

Prosecuting Attorneys (3)
Your team will research the alleged crimes of the accused. Prosecute the case against Alexander. Obtain testimony from the witnesses and build a case to convict. (note- with so many charges and such limited time, it will be a good idea to prioritize the crimes of the accused.)

Defense Attorneys Same as prosecuting attorneys but your team will present a defense for the Accused. The Defense will cross-examine and call witnesses that will speak to Alexander's innocence.

Press
Although you won't have a great deal of research to do. You will prepare a report based on court room observation and post testimony interviews. You will publish your report on this blog.

Witnesses
Each of the witnesses selected will need to reseach that person and impersonate him or her. All questions should be answered as historically accurately as possible.

The potential witnesses are:
Darius III, King of Persia
Demosthenes
Arrian
Plutarch
Diodorus
Curtius
Antipater
Parmenio
Philotas
Ptolomy
Aristobulos
Nearchus
Cleitarchus
Callisthenes
Aristotle
Alexander's Mother
Roxana
Stateira

Jury
One person will serve as the jury. Just as with the Press, this person will not have researching responsibility but will be responsible for taking notes on the trial and rendering a written verdict.

You have until the class meeting before the trial to make a selection at which time I will assign one. All reserving of roles is to be done on the blog.

The charges against Alexander are as follows:
Crimes against Humanity (War Crimes)
Murder of Clitus
Public Intoxication
Disorderly Conduct
Theft
Burning of Persepolis
Massacre at Branchidae
Poor leadership with regard to the disaster at Gedrosia

Hello everyone this is the press speaking. Don't you think that Alxanders trial was a bit harsh. 30 years that was alexanders sentance harsh i know but it had to be done. Though I belive the only reason he got this was due to foulty trials and multiple mistakes I was suprised that the prosecution even won this is what they told me when i asked them why do you think Alexander is guilty

"cous' he's inocent" I wasent expecting this but I dont thin they took me serious because they prove the point later during the trial.

Then I asked the same question to the defence and they said "Alexander is going to be mis judged we ar basing this on a 21st centuery crimes". this i accept what Alexander did in his day was acceptable but is considerd unethical in todays time for some reason.

Then I said lets move on to a more bias view on Alexander I interviewed no other than Roxxane Alexander's wife, this is what she said when i asked her what she thought of the charges "ofcourse he's not guilty I would have noticed if he had done anything wrong after all I'm his wife"

well this ends my review of this case for now...
I will release the video of the trial when I figuer this out, but on the next day I will bring a brief summary of the court dessesion in a newsletter.

Hey everyone this is Mr. Parker's other class's press.

In the trial of Alexander the Great, a number of arguments were considered. First off, the prosecution accused Alexander with the murder of Clitus and the Burning of Persepolis. First to the stand was Darius III, father of Stateria, Alexander's wife. A series of questions were then asked by the prosecution about Alexander burning Persia's "Holy City." Soon later, with no further questions from either the prosecution or the defense, Darius was let off the stage.

Surprisingly, the key witness in this entire trial was not Alexander himself, but Arrion, a writer who wrote a book about him. Although Arrion had not been there at the time of Alexander's crimes, the prosecution seemed to think his opinion of importance. As the prosecutors darted questions at Arrion about the actions and whereabouts of Alexander, it appeared as if he deliberately tore apart the persecution's case. When later asked about his rudeness and obnoxiousness, he admitted that he did so purposely. Also, on the subject of the prosecution's attempts at questioning him, Arrion stated that they, "Did the worst job ever!" A similar response was received from Darius III. After Arrion was let off stage, Alexander stated that the case was "going great" and "the defense has it easy."

A few more witnesses were called up to the stand, but none however, were present for any of the crimes. As the prosecution and defense finished up their closing statements, the jury focused on making a decision. As the courtroom became quiet, the jury presented her verdict. Surprisingly, in the case of the murder of Clitus, she found Alexander guilty. yet, in the crime of the burning of Persepolis, she ruled Alexander innocent. All other crimes were acquitted due to lack of evidence.

This concludes my report. Surely this trial will go down in "history."
